CSUB Social Work student, Rochelle Ramirez, is the 2011 recipient of The Mark Moses Distinguished Fellowship Award from the Network for Social Work Managers, recognizing outstanding academics and students in the field of social work management. RochelleRamirez, the 2011 recommended recipient of this award, is a student in the final year of her graduate social work program at California State University at Bakersfield. As her field placement assignment, Rochelle was part of a pilot program sponsored by the University and the Kern County Public Health organization to serve frail elderly residents. Rochelle distinguished herself in this work, successfully collaborated with the professional nursing staff and demonstrated the invaluable role social workers can play in the administrationof such programs. Rochelle demonstrates excellence in her academic work, ability to work as a member of a team, and commitment to diversity in those she serves. The award was presented at the annual Institute in Baltimore, MD.
In addition, Ms. Ramirez co-presented a paper, titled “Transformative Leadership: Rural County to Address Local Needs.” at the conference with Dr. Bruce Friedman, Professor and Director of the Department of Social Work at CSUB. In the presentation, participants were introduced to the concepts of transformative leadership; such as the process used to implement transformative leadership to address community problems and the outcomes and collaboration that emerge from it.
