CalHumanities Grant for Documentary on College Graduates from Migrant Labor Background

CalHumanitiesCamp to Campus  A project team at CSUB, with faculty from Art, History, English and Economics, are embarking on an ambitious project to create a documentary about first-generation college graduates who come from a migrant labor background. The project, called “Camp to Campus,” is funded by a $10,000 grant from Cal Humanities’ Community Stories Fund, with $15,000 in matching funds from CSUB. The goal is to interview a diverse group of people who were the first in their families to attend college and who grew up partly in Central Valley migrant labor camps because their parents worked as migrant laborers. Once the documentary is completed, it will be shown at CSUB, local high schools and community colleges throughout Kern County in January, February and March of 2013. High school and community college students will have the chance to compete for scholarships to CSUB in an essay and video-essay contest about the documentary.
